The word Curry is believed to be derived from the South Indian Tamil word Karhi.
The southern part of India is famous for its various spices and also spicy foods. Some of the chief varieties of
spices produced here include cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
Sri Lanka has an extensive number of indigenous dishes, fruit and spices. Curries here are much hotter than those in India. More chilli and spices are added to flavour the dish. Rice and curry still comprises the main meal.
